Poles Apart - The Arctic and Antarctic

For our current Inquiry topic, we are learning about the North and South Poles.  So far, we have talked about where they are, their temperatures, famous explorers and the animals that live there.

We have been busy making models of both poles.  These models were very much a team effort with some children painting, others gluing and colouring.  We would love you to come in to Room 10 to see our models.

The Antarctic - above and below sea level.

The Arctic - above sea level

We are really looking forward to our class trip to the Antarctic Centre on Tuesday and are excited about what we are going to learn.

Book Week - Grandparents afternoon

As part of Book Week, we were lucky to have a number of Grandparents come in to Room 10 and read to us.  They bought books that either they, their children or grandchildren enjoyed reading and listening to.  Everyone really enjoyed the opportunity and a few of us even got a little sleepy - we were so relaxed.

Thank you so much to our lovely Grandparents.  We really enjoyed listening to you reading and we hope you will come back and visit us in Room 10 again soon.

Dr Seuss

For the last two weeks, we are studying Dr Seuss and the many stories he wrote.  We have completed a range of activities about his books.  Thanks for sharing your Dr Seuss books with Room 10.

From reading his stories, the children have discovered many hidden messages and meanings in his books.  These include:

Face our Fears
Don't let anything stop us
Try new things
Don't give up!

Green Eggs and Ham

We shared the story - Green Eggs and Ham and made our own version of green eggs.
We do like Green Eggs!  Yum.

Cat in the Hat

We had fun watching the video of The Cat in the Hat and made yummy hats to eat.  We used biscuits, icing, licorice and marshmallows.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

From this story, we had the idea of making blue jelly and putting a fish in the jelly.  Mac said we therefore have - Jelly Fish!!

We had a fun two weeks exploring Dr Seuss stories and also discovered that his stories are quite hard to read as he loves to make up his own words and he loves using rhyming words.

We Love Dr Seuss!

PJ and Onesies Day

Today, we celebrated PJ and Onesies Day to support our two Belfast School Jump Jam teams who have qualified to attend Nationals in Auckland later in the year.

Our very own Jor'ja is a member of one of these teams.  Go Jor'ja!
